Monday Morning Drama…

It is obviously Monday, having had a dramatic weekend i was somewhat hoping for a quick week without any kid of ‘adventure’. It was not to be so. I mean this is Nairobi where unexpected things happens every single day, and that’s how my hope was thwarted. Now I make it a point to walk at least twenty minutes in the morning (am on that weight check) and another twenty in the evening.

So today as usual am with my friend’s sister, and as we rush to catch a bus, she whispers something…”I hate it when someone is right behind you and it feels like they are trailing you…..”

Of course i take the hint- there’s a man right on our back who has been keeping pace with us- and walk faster, he increases his pace. We slow down, the same happens… and I have watched way too many movies to know what to do in such a situation. We keep our conversation going(with my friend) and i change course and he won’t just give up. He’s in pursuit. My friend, let’s call her Joy, because that’s her name starts freaking out and I try, mark try, because am not better off, i mean who knows what he could do. The worst that could happen is we get kidnapped in broad daylight, see how wild my mind was racing? After it’s obvious we are trying to ‘escape’ he finally catches up with us and interrogates Joy.

Unknown: Wewe ni mkikuyu?

Joy: (Keeps walking)…

Unknown: Niambie tu

Joy: Nods her head in disgust  (Increase walking pace, including myself)

Unknown: Ama wewe ni mkamba?

Joy: (To me) WTH?

Me: Just keep walking, this is one of those Mondays you meet a psycho on your way to catch a bus.

Now we cross the road, he does the same. My mind is extremely alert and I tell Joy we need to go back to the other side. When she brushed off my idea, I went ahead and crossed the road and she followed. Now this psycho goes ahead and says, ‘Nimewashtua‘ and grins wildly as he walks away. Then started analyzing the situation with our FBI instincts and made sure we boarded a different bus from him. Better safe than sorry I tell myself.

On reaching the Central Business District, the tout told us ‘tushuke na jam’ and immediately three passengers alighted: myself, Joy and another passenger alight, the traffic police take over the vehicle since the place was not a designated bus stop.

After such an interesting morning, all I could do was look forward to a great week.

Dressy Dress

On the 30th of August, two friends of mine got married (to each other). I totally had an amazing time.

Now, lemme rant about this dress worn by my very own best friend. I loved it, it screamed class and was also trendy. As much as am not a pink lover, I totally adore this dress.

(Pst….. Concerning the shooting venue, we were running out of time and she was an usher, so it was a rushed decision.)

Now guess who was overdressed in a wedding. This is never happening again. Shinning in others’ shadow in this post, in the grey sweater.

See you soon

Hair Journey…

I have been wanting to start a healthy hair journey for a while. So, hopefully i will be consistent. i have relaxed hair which mostly experiences dryness and consequently breakage. It’s disappointing to say the least when all along I have been trying to retain length.

Currently am at neck length, (the longest my hair has been in months years). So currently am relaxed, 9 weeks post with about an inch of new growth. I want to texlax so as to gain volume since my ends have been thinning out. I also want to start self-relaxing at home. Trust me I have been doing research for months now and i cannot say am ready but i will do it. However am preparing for the worst, it’s all in Murphy’s Law but all ready for good results. One thing i have learned is to be patient, and patient and patient. So right now I’ll not do a length check until after my next retouch which will be in January so protective styling and probably a trim then. These decisions will be made as we progress, fingers crossed.

So for now it’s doing the basic, deep conditioning weekly or every two weeks, in which I’ll shampoo before. Tried co-washing and my hair felt dry afterwards no matter how often I moisturized. Moisturizing and sealing daily or every other day depending on my hair’s needs. One problem though, i cannot keep my hand off my hair, i don’t know how the low manipulation will work but ill restrain myself, i need a distraction.

I will share pictures on the progress, am determined to do this. Let’s see how far the next months will go. Here’s someone who inspired me to start this hair journey of Just Grow Already.

Now someone said that if a woman cuts her hair, she is having a major change in her life. As much as am not cutting mine, i feel that this is something totally great and major since am in a new chapter of my life this month of October, so help me God.

Stock Taking

The year 2014 is going well as anticipated. I have been home for most part of the year with a few days away, travelling. There’s no better way to continue a year than to know more about your past, in terms of ties and your ancestry. Kisii is where I have been, considering I rarely went there in the past, I can say I have learnt a lot and appreciate more to that effect.

Notice the red volcanic soil

The downs of this year; my grandfather passed on, he was a great man, a bit frail at the point of his demise. At 87, he was so strong. Reaching such an age is a total blessing. I will forever remember him, for all the talks we had. He really valued education, told me to soma mono (study hard) any time I was with him.

Also I have made stronger ties. My family, my friends, and most of all my closest friend Nice Njeri, bless her. Such a strong woman and inspiration.

Eight years of friendship, four of ups and downs, and still counting.

A great moment which I look forward to: graduation. I know it’s my first degree but got to celebrate.

Another great thing that happened to me this year, this Man Onjira.

Looking forward to a greater year. Happy 2014 (It’s June, I know)
